Creating Navigation Outline: Tourism Marketing

TOURISM MARKETING

Once the site map is done, it’s pretty easy to transform it into a navigational structure.  All of the elements are there, we just need to arrange them so they represent the navigation bar.  This is it, our website is slowly getting its final form!

First of all, we will keep everything that’s not HTML out of the navigation.  It should consist solely of pages from the same website, organized by following the site map we created.  Any documents and files that we want to put on the website will be placed somewhere in the content area.

We’re still doing this on paper, or on a digital document, but not directly on the website.  The reason for that is that we are going to change some of the navigation items names later, so they are more appropriate.  For example, if we created a content area ‘general info’, renaming it to ‘about us’ is more logical to use on the website, as general info can mean literally anything and it’s not intuitive enough.

But for now, we will leave the names as they are and simply organize them into navigation bar.

Depending on the number of navigational links, we can create either vertical or horizontal navigation bar.  Navigation bars with fewer links can fit nicely vertically on the page, but those with more links will look much better put vertically on the top of the page.  Either way, the limit of main links on the navigation bar (‘children’ of ‘home’ page from previous step) is usually six or less, so we will keep that in mind.

In case there are too many pages even for the horizontal navigation bar (more than 100), we will add audience navigation which helps users find what they are searching for.

We have have worked with the national treasure hunley website for several years and it has been a great adventure. And could not be more proud to bring the website into the modern era with an eCommerce feature that allows visitors to purchase tickets online.

The website is a great example of what modern tourism marketing looks like in the new millennium.
