Meta just gave its AI agent a mailbox. In its September 24 recap of Meta Connect 2026, the company said Muse will soon have its own email address so people can forward messages to it or add it to a thread “to get things done.” The same update adds ten retail connectors, Shop Pay and PayPal, while Muse is also moving onto glasses and the Mac. Read the full announcement in Meta’s Connect 2026 recap.
That is more than a feature update. It is an early blueprint for a new marketing interface: an AI agent that can receive a customer’s request, evaluate products and services, and—when authorized—complete the transaction. For businesses, the competition is shifting from winning a click to becoming the option an agent can confidently select.
Muse Mail turns the inbox into an agent-to-business channel
Meta says users will be able to forward emails to Muse or copy it on a thread, with the dedicated address arriving “soon.” TechCrunch reported that Meta received more than 1,500 connector applications in less than a week after opening the platform to developers. Together, those announcements point to an ecosystem in which an agent is not merely answering a prompt; it is participating in the workflows where buying decisions already happen.
For marketers, this creates a new version of “inbox zero.” A customer could ask Muse to compare renewal options, find a compatible replacement, resolve an order issue or gather quotes. The brand that supplies the clearest product facts, policies, availability and next action will be easier for the agent to use—and easier for the customer to choose. Conventional email tactics still matter, but the message now has a second reader: software deciding whether the content is useful and trustworthy.
Commerce is moving from discovery to delegated checkout
Meta’s recap names Walmart, Best Buy, American Eagle Outfitters, DICK’S Sporting Goods, Fanatics, Gap, Michael Kors, Sephora, Ulta and Wayfair as new Muse connectors. It also lists Shop Pay and PayPal for payments, with Expedia and Instacart coming soon. Meta had already launched Muse with Stripe’s Link, which can create a one-time-use card; the company says eligible purchases receive protections including coverage for damaged or lost items, price drops and no-fee returns. Those details appear in Meta’s Muse launch announcement.
The strategic implication is important: the agent may become the storefront. Mark Zuckerberg told TechCrunch that Muse is expected to be free for a large amount of usage and that Meta could eventually earn “a small fee from transactions.” That model gives Meta a reason to optimize not just conversation quality, but product matching, checkout completion and merchant participation. Search visibility, product-feed quality and conversion design are converging into one agent-readable discipline.
Agent readiness is now a data and trust problem
Being listed as a connector will not compensate for weak information. Businesses should make every high-value answer machine-readable and easy to verify: current price, inventory, variants, shipping windows, return rules, warranty terms, service boundaries, credentials and total cost. Keep those facts consistent across the website, structured data, feeds, marketplaces and customer-service systems. An agent cannot reliably recommend what a brand cannot clearly describe.
Trust is equally decisive. Meta says Muse asks for approval before sensitive actions such as sending email or making a purchase, gives users an audit trail, and lets them choose or disconnect connected apps. Its launch post also says Muse data and conversations are not shared with Meta’s ad systems. Those controls are a useful benchmark for any company building its own AI-assisted customer journey: least-privilege access, explicit approval, reversible actions and an observable record of what the system did.
What marketing leaders should do in the next 30 days
- Audit agent-facing facts. Select the 25 products, services or offers that drive the most revenue and test whether a third party can find accurate answers about price, availability, fit and fulfillment.
- Build an approval-safe workflow. Define which actions an agent may recommend, which require customer confirmation and which must remain human-led. Log every handoff and failed action.
- Prepare for agent referrals. Add analytics events for assistant-originated sessions, product comparisons, quote requests and completed checkouts. Separate assisted conversions from ordinary last-click traffic.
- Publish evidence, not slogans. Create concise pages for specifications, policies, use cases, comparisons and customer proof. Clear evidence gives both people and AI systems something defensible to use.
Meta’s Muse update does not mean every customer will immediately buy through an agent. It does mean the interface is being assembled: a mailbox, connectors, product discovery, payments and background execution. Brands that wait for agentic commerce to become a dominant channel will be optimizing after the selection layer has already formed.
